Susan Shea Worthington, passed away in her sleep surrounded by her children and beloved dog, Hodge, on May 31, 2025, at the age of 85 following a valiant years-long battle with blood cancer. Susan was born February 17, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio to John Hamilton Shea and Doris Dugan Shea. She graduated from Lexington (MO) High School in 1957, attended University of Missouri, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Knox College in Galesburg, IL in 1961.
Susan was involved in many organizations and activities over the years. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi women’s fraternity; achieved Life Master rank in American Contract Bridge League; member Daughters of the American Revolution; member United Daughters of Confederacy, Chapter President; member Lexington United Methodist Church; past President of the United Methodist Women; past President of Lexington Garden Club; and founding member and first President of Lexington Tourism Bureau. She also served as President of the Lexington Community Betterment Association and on the Board of Directors of the Lexington Historical Association and Lexington Women’s Club. She formed and served as first President of “Live! In Lexington” Concert Series, established the Adopt-a-Spot program in Lexington and she was awarded the Missouri State Leadership Award in 2006. Susan enjoyed giving back to her community, especially in a town she loved so much.
Those who knew her know she was always cheerful and had an infectious sense of humor. Even as her health declined, she loved to participate where she could. She loved her Book Club and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was especially grateful for all the caregiving, meals & love provided by daughter-in-law Tami Worthington and family friends Brant & Michelle Neer.
Susan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth E. Worthington, and bonus son, Bradley Worthington. She was also blessed to be loved by daughter Sheila Shea Chimento (Jim), son Dennis Kendall Hinman (Lorrie), bonus children Gregory Worthington (Sylvia), Roberta Fanoele (Mark), Paul Worthington (Laura), bonus daughter-in-law Tami Worthington and all their families.
A Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Lexington United Methodist Church, 1211 S. Business Hwy 13, Lexington, Missouri 64067. A memorial service will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be considered to the John H. Shea Memorial Fund at the University of Missouri or The Lexington Auditorium in Lexington, MO. Memories of Susan and condolences may be left at www.LedfordFamilyFH.com.
