Steven “Steve” Daniel Thompson, Sr., 48, of Odessa, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri, from injuries sustained in an accident.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO 64076, 816-633-5524. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Odessa Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family in care of Skyler Thompson, for a charity to be chosen at a later date. Steve was born on December 30, 1977, in Independence, Missouri, to Shelton and Carol Frances (McDaniel) Thompson. He attended Lee’s Summit Schools and then became a lifelong part of the Odessa community. Steve was united in marriage to Rebecca Maier in 2002. Although they later divorced. Steve dedicated many years of his life to the recycling industry, spending an incredible 28 years working at Advantage Metals Recycling in Kansas City. His commitment to his work and the people he worked alongside was an important part of his life. Outside of work, Steve enjoyed the simple things that mattered most—spending time with his family and friends, hunting, and fishing. He was a man who cherished the time he had with the people he loved, and those who knew him will remember the memories, laughter, and good times they shared with him.

Steve was a proud father and grandfather. His greatest joy was his family, and he leaves behind a legacy that will continue through his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his three children, Skyler Daniel Thompson and wife Mary of Odessa, Missouri; Steven Daniel Thompson, Jr. and wife Savannah of Independence, Missouri; and Natalie Thompson of Kansas City, Missouri; one grandson, Steele Daniel Thompson; and twin grandchildren soon to be born, Skye Eden Thompson and Stetson Daniel Thompson. He is also survived by his sister, Lisa Fox of Florida, along with many relatives and friends who will deeply miss him.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Shelton and Carol Frances Thompson.

Steve will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Though his life was cut far too short, the love he shared with his family and the memories he created with those around him will remain with them always.
