Sandra Sue Sanders (Burgess) of Odessa Missouri died peacefully on January 4, 2026, at North Care Hospice House surrounded by family.

Sue was born on March 16, 1938, in Saline County to Leonard and Josie (Coad) Burgess. Sue was a graduate of Sante Fe High School, Grand Pass Missouri. She was united in marriage to Travis Sanders in Independence, Missouri on July 21, 1956. She was proceeded in death by her husband Travis on March 21, 2017, her son Charles on July 15, 1981, and her son-in-law Russell Scrutchfield on May 7, 2016.

She was raised in the Waverly Missouri First Christian Church, becoming a member at a young age. As a child in 1945 she was diagnosed with Polio, and was the first patient in the Kansas City area to be successfully treated with the “Sister Kenny Treatment”.

She retired from Central Cooperatives and focused on her hobbies of collecting antiques, and embroidery, and spending time with her family and friends. She also operated Silver Fox Antiques in Odessa, Missouri for several years.

Sue was an active member of Rolling Meadows Christian Church.

Sue is survived by two daughters, Robin Scrutchfield and Ronda Westerheid and a son-in-law Michael Westerheid; five grandchildren: David Hamilton, Megan (Jared) Coffey, Hannah (Eric) Cochron, Amanda (Billy Ennis) Westerheid, and Kyle (Hannah Jo) Westerheid and thirteen great grandchildren.

Sue was a friend to everyone she knew, and a good listener. She touched many people’s lives in a positive way. No one was a stranger to Sue. A special thanks to all her close friends for their support, and a special thanks to Sandy Philpott, her very best friend.

In accordance with Sue’s wishes, a private family grave site memorial is planned. The family suggests memorials to Rolling Meadows Christian Church, Odessa Missouri.

Although Sue preferred not to have an obituary, we felt it was appropriate to let the community know about the loss of a wonderful friend.
