Roger Hershal Dowell, 77, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019 at home surrounded by family.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 7995 Outer Rd., Odessa, MO, 64076. A Celebration of Life will follow at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Odessa Cemetery Association or Wounded Warrior Project. Roger was born on February 24, 1942 in Odessa, MO to Hershal and Naomi (Begemann) Dowell. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1960. Roger served in the Army National Guard. Roger owned and operated Dowell Construction for many years and then he purchased Whistle Stop Convenience Store in 1993 and retired in 2009. On October 10, 1995 he married Linda Lou (Gann) Dowell in Miami, Oklahoma. Roger served on the Odessa Cemetery Board for many years. He was a member of the NSRA and Street Rodders. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Roger enjoyed building classic hotrods.
Roger is survived by his wife, Linda Dowell of Odessa, MO; two sons, Brent Dowell and wife Beth and Thad Dowell and wife Lisa all of Odessa; three step children, April Morris and husband Greg of Odessa, MO, Amy Parsons of Blue Springs, MO and Adrienne Middleton and Fiancé Drew Frisbie of Odessa, MO; nine grandchildren, Taylor Middleton, Drew Morris, Sean Morris, Alana Dowell, Emily Parsons, Savanna Middleton, Dawson Dowell, Hayden Dowell and Carson Dowell; a brother, Wayne Dowell and wife Vickie of Greenwood, MO; mother-in-law, Velma Surface of the home; and many nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Charlotte Ann Wilson and Theda Dowell.
