Roger Evan Buis, 74, of Odessa, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023, at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Missouri surrounded by his family.

 

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 7, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 300 E. Crestview Drive Odessa, MO 64076.  A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Odessa Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund or Humanitarian Aid. Roger was born in Tooele, Utah on September 10, 1949, to Everett Donald and Violet Muezet (Wakefield) Buis. Roger was united in marriage to Mary Lorraine (Wallis) on August 31, 1968, in Decatur, IL. Mary and Roger were later sealed for time and all eternity on May 2, 2003 in St. Louis, MO. He graduated in 1967 from Stephen Decatur High School in Decatur, IL and went on to attend college at Sangamon State University, Millikin University, and ultimately earned an Associate Degree in Biomedical Electronics from Richland Community College. Roger proudly served in the Army Reserve. He spent 18 years working for Firestone, then another 18 years as an electrical inspector for Caterpillar. He was a member of the NRA. Roger was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Odessa, Missouri. He was trained in American Sign Language and served as an Interpreter during church services for many years. Along with spending time with family, Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving, politics, history, and photography. He loved to learn new things and was constantly striving for more knowledge through reading and listening to books. He was always excited to share treats and candy with his grandchildren. Roger was a great example to his family through his life full of service to others, and the unwavering effort that he put into his many church callings.

 

Roger is survived by his wife, Mary Lorraine Buis; four children, Brenda (C. Daniel “Dan”) Ringo of Greenwood, MO, Michael “Mike” (Anna) Buis of Fort Worth, TX, Daniel “Danny” (Samantha “Sam”) Buis of Blue Springs, MO, Lauren (David “Dave”) Millward of Grain Valley, MO; sixteen grandchildren, Levi (Megan) Ringo, Logan Ringo, Jocelyn Ringo, Gabriella Ringo, Landon Ringo, Hailey (Ammon) Parker, Carter Buis, Tatum Buis, Noah Buis, Evan Buis, Maci Buis, Maxwell Buis, David Millward,, Katelynn Millward, Alexis Millward, and Ethan Millward; one sister, Sandra “Sandy” (Jessie) Howald of Pocatello, ID; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.    

 

Along with both his parents, Roger was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Buis and Cynthia Diane (Buis) Stephenson; and one brother, Donald Eugene Buis.
