Robert Leroy “Bob” Barnes, 82, of Holden, Missouri formerly of Odessa, Missouri passed away Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Missouri.
A visitation will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2025, at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 20109 Bus. MO-13, Higginsville, MO, 64037. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the West Central Missouri Veterans Assistance League. Bob was born on March 23, 1943, in California, Missouri to Horace and Ethel Muriel Dean (Irvin) Barnes. He graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia, MO in 1961. He joined the United States Navy in 1961 and served until 1965. He was employed as an Independence MO firefighter for 30 years, retiring as a captain in 1995 as well as working construction as a second job for many years. Bob was united in marriage to Catherine Jane Shults, on December 23, 1961, in Sedalia, MO. After retirement, Bob and Jane enjoyed traveling, horseshoe pitching and fishing.
Bob is survived by his wife, Jane Barnes of Holden, MO; Three sons, Robert H. (Rhonda) Barnes of Mayview, MO, Darrel W. (Ashlynn) Barnes of Holden, MO, and Steven A. (Erika) Barnes of Fairfax, VA, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Along with both his parents, Bob was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
