Phyllis was born on January 6, 1942, in San Deigo, California to Forrest Edgar and Irene Engel (Ahrentschild) McGinnis. She was united in marriage to James Robert Thorp on April 14, 1959, in Lexington, MO. Phyllis retired after 42 years working in food service for the Lexington R-V School District. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Phyllis enjoyed bingo, sewing, fishing, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Phyllis is survived by two children, Sherry (Joe) Gray of Lexington and Michael (Christy) Thorp of Lexington; four grandchildren, Andrew (Merissa) Gray of Higginsville, MO, Shelby Gray, Morgan Thorp, and Kaitlyn Thorp all of Lexington, MO; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Gray, Tucker Gray, and Emberlyn Jo Gray; two brothers, Larry McGinnis of Corder, MO and David (Penny) McGinnis of Blue Springs, MO; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, James Thorp, Phyllis was preceded in death by a sister, Susie McGinnis; and four brothers, Harlan McGinnis, Roger McGinnis, Ronnie McGinnis, and Jimmy McGinnis.
