Patricia Jane Thurmon, born January 14, 1927, in Wellington, Missouri, was the daughter of Cecil Alexander Thurmon and Eunice (Larkin) Thurmon. She lived a life filled with a love of learning, a deep love for her family, treasured friendships, and the simple joys that made each day special. She passed away peacefully on October 11, 2026.
Pat dedicated her professional life to education as a teacher with the Blue Springs School District at Franklin Smith Elementary where she worked for 30 years. She mainly taught third grade, retiring in 1986. Teaching was more than a career; it was an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children. She especially delighted in teaching the children of Kansas City Royals team members, a unique and memorable part of her teaching career.
Outside the classroom, Pat enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, her rose garden and the companionship of her beloved pet dogs. She also enjoyed collecting Precious Moments figurines, silver spoons from all her travels and watching Royals baseball. She had wonderful friends, loved the Wheel of Fortune, and she was a big fan of chocolate!
Pat was simply Aunt Pat to the nieces and nephews who loved her so much. She never forgot a birthday, always sent a card with money, and this continued with her many great-nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, John Thurmon and Donald Thurmon; and her sister-in-law, Mary E. Thurmon.
She is survived by her nephews, Greg Thurmon and his wife, Barbara; Charles Thurmon and his wife, Mary; and John Thurmon and his wife, Kristie; her nieces, Jennifer (Thurmon) Kraus and her husband, Warren, and Melissa (Thurmon) Abkemeier and her husband, Tom; and her sister-in-law, Marylou Thurmon, thirteen great nieces and nephews, and eight great, great nieces and nephews. She will be remembered with affection by her family, friends, former students, and all those whose lives she touched.
Patricia's legacy lives on through the family she loved, the many children she taught, and the friendships she cherished. Her services are at 1:00pm on Sunday October 18 at Wellington United Methodist Church. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Wellington United Methodist Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home, 1720 South Street, Lexington, MO 64067, 660-259-2245.
