Louise Lockwood

October 11, 1935 — August 19, 2019

On Monday, August 19, 2019, Louise Lockwood, 83 years of age, entered the Lord’s arms to become an angel for eternity. Louise was known by many names Mom, “Mema”, “Lovey”, homemaker, Sunday School secretary, VBS leader, aunt, sister and wife to Jerry Lockwood for 64 years.

Growing up on a farm in north-central Missouri, Louise was one of eight children born to the union of Elza and Ina Price. Around sixteen years of age, Louise moved from Gallatin, MO to Raytown, MO to live with her sister, Eva. It has been said that Louise met Jerry on the last day of their senior year at the school picnic. Legend has it, Louise (our sweet Louise) challenged Jerry to a race across the swimming pool; Jerry took the challenge. Jerry dove in and while he was swimming Louise and her friends were giggling. You see, Louise did not know how to swim. When Jerry reached the other side, he looked back and there sat Louise with this big grin on her face. He went back over and said “I guess I won; will you go out with me now?” This is where it all began. Loise and Jerry were united in marriage on June 11, 1955 in Raytown, MO. Louise never learned how to swim, yet, was always ready to go fishing or to the swimming pool.
Louise although a bit shy, was compassionate, empathetic, and would give the shirt off her back to help another. She served over 40 years in her churches as a leader and administratively; a tremendous seamstress; kept a weed-less garden and an immaculate lawn around the house.

Louise leaves behind Jerry, her ever-loving husband of 64 years, who has cared for her during her devastating dementia for the last fifteen years, by her side daily providing baths, feeding and never once missing a step. One son, Steve Lockwood (Sally), Overland Park, KS; one daughter, Terri Gorman (Wayne), Lee’s Summit, MO; grandson, Jason Lockwood (Dina), Olathe, KS; granddaughters, Megan Mihelcic (Fritz), Columbia, IL; Monica Siesener (Steve), Imperial, MO; and Alyssa Gilmore (Mike), Lee’s Summit, MO. Four great-grandchildren Brady, Ella, Jack and Audrey. Louise has been proceeded in death by her parents, one sister, three brothers and one granddaughter, Kimberly Jo Lockwood.
