Joseph Paxton, 90, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away on June 1st, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer.
Joe, or JJ to his family, was born on August 6th, 1931, to Earl and Marie Paxton in Flat Creek, MO. After graduating from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Sedalia, MO, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lorna, whom he met and married in 1962 in Las Vegas, NV, his son-in-law, Col Christopher J Wilson, and his sisters Earleen Dick, Elaine Harvey, Karen Martin, and Sharon Holley.
He is survived by his children, Keith (Edie) Paxton of Bella Vista, AR; Jay Paxton of Raymore, MO; Sherry Wilson of Andover, KS; his grandchildren, Lucas (Joanna), Haylee, and Natalie; and great granddaughters Megan, Madison, and Valerie.
After moving back to Missouri in 1967, Joe went to work at the Lake City ammunition plant from which he retired in 1990. Joe was a resident of Odessa, Mo from 1972 to 2013 and he and Lorna were active members of St. George Catholic Church.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd Street, Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. A funeral service will begin 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at Odessa Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, consider a donation to one of Joe’s preferred charitable organizations; Wayside Waifs Animal Shelter of Kansas City or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
