Joan Adelle (Truitt) Copenhaver, 92, of Lexington, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville, MO.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at the First Baptist Church, 525 S. RT-13 Bus., Lexington, MO. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in Lexington Memory Gardens. Memorials are suggested to the American Alzheimer’s Association. Joan was born on July 9, 1929, in Long Beach, California to Homer and Lola (Minks) Truitt. She graduated from Collins High School in Collins, MO. On December 25, 1947, she married Hugh Delbert Copenhaver in Collins, MO. He preceded her in death on October 29, 2018. Joan was a homemaker and caretaker of her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lexington, MO. She taught Sunday School and was active with Homes of Sorrow. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Joan enjoyed MFA bus trips, working in her flower garden, and cooking for her family.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Copenhaver and wife Barb and Bruce Copenhaver and wife Gayle, all of Lexington, MO; three grandchildren, Chad Copenhaver and wife Hannah, Cara (Copenhaver) Riekhof and husband Garrett, and Amanda (Copenhaver) Thompson and fiancé Graham Padley, all of Higginsville, MO; six great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Clara Copenhaver, Annika, Makenna, and Garrison Riekhof, and Rhett Thompson; one sister, Doris Hughes and husband Raymond of Bolivar, MO; and nephew, David Hughes.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by a brother, John Edward Truitt.
