James Cleveland Trainer, 82, of Wellington, Missouri passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Aspire Senior Living in Oak Grove, Missouri.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2026, at Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be at Odessa Cemetery in Odessa, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to New Beginnings Free Will Baptist Church. James was born on February 3, 1944, in Lexington, Missouri to Horace “Buddy” Parker and Eva Marie (Fletcher) Ray. He graduated from Lexington High School. From 1962 to 1966, James honorably served his country by enlisting in the Missouri National Guard, demonstrating his commitment to service and duty. He later dedicated many years to the Lake City Ammunition Plant, where he worked across various departments. Continuing his entrepreneurial spirit, he became the proud owner and operator of Trainer’s Siding and Windows. On December 20, 1969, James married the love of his life, Patricia Ann (Hobbs) Trainer, in Richmond, Missouri. Together, they built a loving family and shared countless cherished moments. James was a member of Assembly of God Church and later in life attended New Beginnings Free Will Baptist Church. James will be remembered not only for his contributions to his family and country but also for his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating, and his passion for adventure extended to tractor and truck pulls. A true collector at heart, he amassed an impressive collection of approximately 400 diecast model cars, each a testament to his attention to detail and love for craftsmanship.
James is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Ann Trainer of Wellington, MO; six children, Marla (John) Rukavina of Wellington, MO, Ron Cowick of Lexington, MO, Rhonda (Roger) Richie of Hamilton, MO, Randy (Danielle Winship-Fiancé) Trainer of Wellington, MO; twelve grandchildren, Matt, Jonathan, Kendra, Steven Wayne, Susanna, Allen, Donna, Chester, Holly, Kristin, Bridgette, and Jenna; twenty four great grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Along with both parents, James was preceded in death by two children, Steven Cowick and Dale Alan Trainer; two sisters, Carol Harlin and Janet Parker; two brothers at infancy, Randy and Bobby; and one great granddaughter, Jolie Belle McFarland.
