Doris May (Taylor) Poteet, 76, of Bates City, Missouri passed away Thursday, May 15. 2025, at St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri surrounded by her loving family.

Memorial Service will be held from 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 South Second Street, Odessa, MO 64076, 816-633-5524. Doris was born on March 10, 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland to Kenneth and Doris May (Meddleton) Taylor, Sr. Doris graduated from Freeport High School before earning her bachelor’s degree in business management from Baker University. Her career in service to her country spanned many years at the Department of Defense, where she expertly managed the out-processing of active-duty military personnel, showcasing her commitment to those who served. Doris attended Westmoreland United Methodist Church in Kansas.

On August 6, 1988, Doris was united in marriage to Victor M. Poteet in Spring, Texas. Doris was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, and she filled her life with her love for her family, enjoying board games, NASCAR races, water aerobics, and nurturing her garden. Her spirit was infectious, inspiring those around her to cherish every moment and find joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Doris is survived by her loving husband, Victor M. Poteet of Bates City, MO; four children, Bret (Stephanie) Brown of TX, Vince Poteet of GA, Paula (Anthony) Poteet of GA, and Matthew (Rebecca) Poteet of KS; eleven grandchildren, Robert Brown, Devynne Boyanton, Ava Brown, Bradly Spaid, Michael Wishall, Edwin Poteet, Esther Poteet, Winry Poteet, Alaric Poteet, Caspian Poteet, and Baby Boy Poteet; four great-grandchildren, Benjamin Brown, Vera Brown, Eleanor Brown, William Boyanton; two sisters, Linda Serpe of MD and Roberta Bryant of NC; four brothers, Kenneth Taylor of WV, Arley Pennington of PA, Joseph Pennington, and David Taylor of PA; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Doris was preceded in death by both her parents.
