David Daniel Bates, Jr., 82, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
A visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Blue Springs Assembly, 2501 E. Duncan Road, Blue Springs, MO 64029. A funeral service will follow at the church. Interment with military honors will follow at Greenton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association or Wounded Warriors. David was born on May 19, 1943, in Topeka, Kansas to David Daniel and Mildred (Pitfield) Bates, Sr. After receiving his high school diploma, David first attended Southwestern Assemblies of God Bible College in Waxahachie, Texas where he received his bachelor’s degree following in receiving his master’s degree from The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary. On October 13, 1962, David was united in marriage to Carolyn Ann (Anderson) Bates in Ft. Gordon, GA. From 1962 to 1970, David honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Army and served in Vietnam from November 1967 to November 1968. He extended his service for several years in the Missouri Army National Guard. David served as an Associate Pastor and Director for the Lodi Teen Challenge for a few years. David also worked for many years in the maintenance industry. He was an active member of Blue Springs Assembly Church. Along with spending time with family and friends, David enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, but most of all spoiling his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
David is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Ann (Anderson) Bates of the home, two children, Tammy (Jeff) Dickson of Blue Springs, MO and David Daniel Bates III, of Raytown, MO; six grandchildren, Rachelle (Jordan) Loyd, Cristina (Gary) Metzger, Grant (Kennedie) Pember, Kevin Pacheco, Edward Whaley, and Austin Bates, eight great-grandchildren, Joshua, Adeline, Eliza, Joelle, Mila Jo, Odelia, Brody, Bobbie, three sisters, Barbara (Phil) Rothermel of Georgia, Judy (Earl) Mitchell of Oklahoma, and Diane (Jeff) Ledingham of Ocean Springs, MS; two brother, Jimmy Bates of Biloxi, MS and Joseph (Cathy) Bates of Biloxi, MS, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
David was preceded in death by both his parents; a great grandson, Jedidiah Loyd; three sisters, Mary Elaine Boudreaux, Jeannie Knox, and Cathy Morris.
