Tony's early years were shaped in Murray, Iowa, where he graduated from Murray High School before pursuing higher education at Northwest Missouri State, earning a Bachelor of Science degree. His career as a computer programmer reflected his sharp intellect and problem-solving abilities, yet it was his storytelling and welcoming spirit that truly defined his presence among family and friends.
Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, Tony was a natural storyteller who could light up any room. He delighted in sharing tales of his adventures and experiences, particularly those from his travels abroad, with Ireland holding a special place in his heart. Whether tending his garden or embracing the great outdoors, Tony found peace and joy in nature’s embrace, which mirrored his nurturing and generous soul.
Above all else, Tony treasured his role as a family man. He was proud of becoming a father and, later, a papa—a title he wore with the greatest honor and affection. Those who knew him best recall a man whose life revolved around his loved ones, whom he adored deeply.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Leota (Peterson) James, Sister Rosemary Morrison and brothers Gerald James, Andrew James, and Dennis James.
He is survived by his wife, Teri, and their daughters Hayley James (Joe) and Heather Taylor (Drake); his grandsons Hunter and Brook; sisters Liz Justice, Barb Dueker, Pat New; brothers Tom and Dan James; and his mother in law, Betty Stroud. He will also be remembered by many other extended family and friends.
