William "Bill" Albert Cross

William “Bill” Albert Cross, 86, of Lexington, Missouri passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at the Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO.

A private graveside service will be held on Monday, November 30, 2020 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Memorials are suggested to the Lexington VFW Post 4052 or the Lexington Presbyterian Disciples Church, and can be left in care of the funeral home. Bill was born on April 2, 1934 in Lexington, MO to William Ray and Lorene (Conaway) Cross. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1952 and then attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. Bill was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1953-1957. While in the Navy he earned the National Defense, Korean Service, United Nations and the China Service Medals. On December 18, 1959 he married LaVeda Coskey, who survives of the home. Bill retired after 40 years from American Commercial Barge Lines as a Diesel Engineer. He was a member of the RLDS Church and attended the Lexington Presbyterian Disciples Church. Bill was also a life member of the Lexington VFW Post 4052, the American Legion, 50-year member of the Moose Lodge, life member of the Elks Lodge #749, and a 50 plus year member of the Masonic Lodge #149. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Bill enjoyed watching football, boating at the Lake of the Ozarks and pulling his grandchildren on their water skies, and fishing.

Survivors include Bill’s wife, LaVeda Cross of Lexington, MO; three children, David Cross and wife Robyn of Grain Valley, MO, Linda DeGonia and husband Len of St. Louis, MO, and LaDonna Scott and husband Russell of Lexington, MO; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, John Cross and Pete McCauley; and one sister, Janet (Cross) Bertz.
