Melba Gean Redden Garrison was born November 27th, 1937, the second child of Fred and Verna (Hassler) Redden in Bland, Missouri. The family moved to Lafayette County when Melba was 7 years old. She attended Burns Country School and graduated from Lexington High School in 1955. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Garrison on November 7th, 1958, who preceded her in death after 61 years.
Melba was a housewife and bookkeeper for the family business, BEAMCO. She also worked various jobs including JC Penney, H&R Block during tax season, KLEX Radio Station and the Lexington News. Melba was also blessed to work nearly 30 years part-time with many go
od friends at the Lafayette County Collector’s office as a clerk and worked many City and County election polls and verification. Melba was a very devoted member of Trinity UCC, the Women’s Circle 2, the annual apple butter making, and enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels with her husband, especially when great granddaughters, Hailey and Tenley would help. She loved cooking and baking, planting flowers and cross-stitching wall hangings and quilts.
Melba’s greatest joys in life were her family. Nana babysat her grandkids and great grandkids and attended many, many activities that brought her much happiness. She even rode a bus to Cooperstown, NY to watch her grandsons play baseball and witness George Brett get inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
She leaves three daughters, Cindy (Bill) Erickson, Bayview, TX; Rhonda Garrison, Manhattan, KS; and Pam (Bill) Wrisinger, Blue Springs, MO; five grandchildren, Tania (Bryce) Pessetto, Higginsville, MO, Tegan Mickey (Bret), Sibley, MO; Alex (Shelley) Wrisinger, Lee's Summit, MO; Tasha (Bobby, III) Wilson, Higginsville, MO; Logan Wrisinger, Kansas City, MO; and eleven great grandchildren Hailey Gean & Tenley Pessetto, Charlotte, Caden, Cameron Wrisinger, Bobby, IV & Brooklyn Wilson, Kenzi, Kaitlin, Kiley, and Kendlyll Mickey. She had two great great grandchildren, Isla and Opie Keegan. She also leaves two sisters, Nola Banister of Holiday Island, AR and Sharon Bingham, Knob Noster, MO and several nieces and nephews. Melba was preceded in death by her husband Robert (2019), her parents and her brother Lawrence Redden.
The family would like to thank Cross Creek at Lee’s Summit and Ascend Hospice for their caring staff and services.
