Mary Frances (Crane) Jones, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021 at Villa St. Francis Catholic Care Center in Olathe, KS.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Friday, March 12, 2021 at Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. Second Street, Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. MASKS ARE REQUIRED. A graveside service will follow at the Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery in Mayview, MO. Memorials are suggested to Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery. Mary was born on September 1, 1931 to Lorin Jasper and Frances Elizabeth (Pointer) Crane in Kansas City, MO. She grew up helping in her parents’ businesses, most notably Cranes Cafeteria on Truman Road. She spent many summers taking the train to Mayview, MO to visit her grandparents, Charles and Dorothea (Heidbrink) Pointer. Mary was a member of the Quill & Pen Society and graduated from East High School in 1947. Since she was only 16, she wasn’t allowed to go to college, so she worked at her parents’ restaurant. Mary began nursing school at St. Luke’s School of Nursing in 1948. As an only child with busy parents, she had always dreamed of one day marrying and having lots of children. That dream came true, in 1950 when she married Frank Wilson Jones, they were married for 22 years. During that time, she had 5 children for whom she was immensely proud. Mary spent her adult years working for the Corps of Engineers and the USDA. She retired in 1997 and then got really busy working at Jacobson’s until it closed and Hallmark until she was 84.
Mary is survived by her five beloved children, Kathleen Anne Capkovic (Chris) of Union, MO, Stephen Michael Jones (Kathy) of Overland Park, KS, Timothy Mark Jones of Kansas, Laurie Lynne Little (Chris) of Sarasota, FL, and Jennifer Elizabeth Staley (Michael) of Overland Park, KS; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. She will always be remembered and cherished.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents.
