Lawrence Norman Shier

Lawrence Norman Shier, 90 of Mayview, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, December 05, 2017 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, 12507 Mt. Tabor Rd., Odessa, MO, 64076. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at the church. Burial will be in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church or the Mt. Lawrence was born on May 9, 1927 in Mayview, MO to Alfred Willard and Elberta (Stockton) Shier. He served in the United States Army. Lawrence received the World War II Victory Medal. On March 23, 1948 he married Violet “Louise” (Lester) Shier in Higginsville, MO. She survives of the home. Lawrence was a member of the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong farmer, raising various livestock and crops. Lawrence retired in 2013. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Lawrence enjoyed coon and bird hunting but most of all raising and training horses was his passion.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Shier of Mayview, MO; four children, Ellen Little and husband Ed of Mayview, MO, Brenda Maycock of Montgomery City, MO, Norma Sherman and husband Andy of Higginsville, MO and Tom Shier of Lee’s Summit, MO; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine McCulloch of Higginsville, MO and Lois Heiple and husband Buddy of Independence, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Shier, R.J. Shier and Eugene Shier; and three sisters, Elizabeth Haley, Eleta Eichhorn and Martha Ann Buttrum.
