James "Jim" Carroll Mayfield

January 30, 1936 — October 8, 2021

James (Jim) Carroll Mayfield, 85, of Kansas City, Missouri formerly of Lexington, MO left his earthly home on Friday, October 8, 2021in the loving care of his family and Kansas City Hospice House.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the Presbyterian Disciples Church, 914 Franklin Ave., Lexington, MO, 64067. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm, Friday, October 15, 2021, at the church. Interment with Military Honors will follow at 2:00 pm in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials to the Kansas City Hospice House. Memoirs of Jim and condolences for his family may be left at www.LedfordFamilyFH.com or on our Facebook Page. Jim was born on January 30, 1936, in Bates County, MO to Floyd and Letha (Wilmot) Mayfield. He graduated from Miami R-1 High School in Amoret, MO and is a veteran of the United States Air Force. On June 28, 1963, he married Janice Neil in Clinton, MO. Jim owned and operated Mallory Transfer and other local businesses, including Lula’s, in Moberly, MO for many years. After retiring Jim spent many summers working for the Kansas City Royals. Jim also was an avid Kansas City Chiefs, MIZZOU Tigers, Moberly Greyhounds and Oregon Ducks fan. Jim loved spending time with friends, antiquing, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Presbyterian Disciples Church in Lexington.

Celebrating a life well lived are Jim’s wife, Janice Mayfield of Kansas City, MO; two daughters, Wendy Mayfield and husband Bryan Bechler of Overland Park, KS and Kristi Mayfield and husband Steve Shilts of Ft. Worth, TX; four grandchildren, Alec Graves, Brett Hollenbeck, Madeline Dill and Gage Hollenbeck; one sister, Doris Berry of Leawood, KS; one brother, Ralph Mayfield of Raymore, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Brewer and Ines Lipperd; and four brothers, Clifford, Elmer, Ben and Melvin Mayfield.
