Harriet Elizabeth Cox

March 19, 1958 — October 23, 2018

Harriet Elizabeth Cox departed this world on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 after a brief but aggressive cancer illness. The daughter of Morris Belt and Patricia Lauer Cox, she was born on March 19, 1958. She was raised in the Presbyterian Church.

Harriet grew up in Lexington and graduated in 1976 from Lexington High School where she was active in cheerleading and other school programs. She attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, graduating with a BSE in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development. While at the university, Harriet was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta social sorority, friendships she made and cherished throughout her life, relishing the special times she shared with her sorority sisters.

She had the opportunity to work in a number of child education programs: the Moline, Illinois Public Schools, Fort Stewart Army Base at Fort Stewart, Georgia, the Department of Defense Schools in Berlin, Germany, the Lexington, MO R-V School District, and the Sylvan Learning Center in Warner Robins, Georgia.

Harriet and her family are especially grateful for the loving and excellent care provided her by Carol Moss, Kindred Hospice Service, particularly Holly Haberstadt, and Integrity Home Care staff, most notably Lee Ann Mabie and Debra Trimble, though all of the staff of these two agencies were outstanding in their care and support. Her lifelong, dear friends, Paula Singleton, Michael Bentz and Chuck Jenkins helped her through this difficult time, as did her sorority sisters.

Though predeceased by her parents, and grandparents, Hazel and Harry Lauer and Edgar F. and Theodocia Morris Cox, Harriet is survived by her children, Anastasia Elise Brock and Elizabeth Anne McTaggart. She took great joy in her six grandchildren: Landon Meierer, Chloe Huffman, Adeline Robinson, Neveah Robinson, Colton McTaggart and Calvin McTaggart. She also is survived by her brother, Douglas M. Cox, and her cousins, Fredrick M. Tempel and his wife, Abigail, and Ward Gabeline and his wife, Treena, and their two sons, Nick and Jeff Gabeline.

Visitation for Harriet will be 10:00 AM, Nov. 3rd, Saturday, at the Presbyterian Disciples Church in Lexington, MO, followed by a service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Machpelah-Memorial Park Cemetery, Lexington, MO. Arrangements are being handled by the Walker Nadler Fuller Funeral Home.

Memorial gifts may be given to the Presbyterian Disciples Church, 914 Franklin Avenue, Lexington MO 64067.
