Edward "Spoony" Leon Haynes

Edward (Spoony) Leon Haynes, 82, of Lexington, passed away January 28, 2020 at Kansas City Hospice House. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 11:00 am at Second Baptist Church, Lexington with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville. Memorials may be made to the Second Baptist Church. Memories and condolences may be left at www.ledfordfamilyfh.com.

Edward was born October 28, 1937 in Higginsville, Missouri to Amiel S. and Clara Mae (Fields) Haynes. He married Sophia Mae Bolton. Edward served in the United States Marine Corps and then worked as a machinist for Lake City Ammunitions Plant. He was a Deacon for the Second Baptist Church of Odessa until the church closed, he then began attending Second Baptist Church of Lexington. He was also a member of the Lexington Lion’s Club and AmVets of Odessa. Edward served on the Planning and Zoning Committee in Lexington and raised cattle and crops. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, building and the outdoors.

Survivors include, his children, Sheila Lee of Lexington, John Gregory January of Kansas City and Steven Louis January of Lexington; a grandson, raised in the home, Gregory Cortez January and wife Adrienne of St. Paul, Minnesota; step children, Melanie Harris of Lee’s Summit and Kimberly Strickland of Odessa; special friend, Arluster Bass of Odessa; uncle, Willie Fields of Higginsville; aunt, Mable Lee Jackson of Higginsville; brothers, Larry Haynes and wife Brenda of Olathe, Kansas, Ronald Haynes of Raytown, Leslie Haynes and wife Francis of Higginsville and Reginald Haynes of Independence; sisters, Dorothy Bass and husband Lawrence of Warrensburg, Katherine Haynes of Independence and Denice Haynes of Independence; 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren one great great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son, Jeffery Lanell January; brothers, Frederick Haynes and Kent Haynes; and sister Donna Marie Haynes.
