    Dorothy Louise (Schowengerdt) Begemann

    May 19, 1923 - March 11, 2022

    Dorothy Louise (Schowengerdt) Begemann, 98, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville, MO. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. Family will not be present for the visitation. A graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery in Mayview, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Zion United Church of Christ in Mayview, MO, Mayview Missouri Foundation or Preferred Hospice. Dorothy was born on May 19, 1923, in Higginsville, MO to Robert Henry and Olga Emma (Arndt) Schowengerdt. Her first five years of education was at Emerson School, for her next four years at Higginsville and she finished her sophomore through senior years at Mayview High School at Mayview, MO. Dorothy worked at Higginsville Shoe Factory, Lake City Ammunitions and Pratt-Whitney Aircraft. On November 18, 1945, she was united in marriage to Carlie August Begemann, he preceded her in death on July 22, 1989. She and Carlie farmed for many years. Dorothy volunteered at the Odessa School District as an accompanist for the High School and Jr. High and was known as “Grannie” to the students. Dorothy was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Mayview and volunteered on various church committees, taught Sunday School, and was an active part in church music. She was a member of the Weaver Club and a 4-H Leader. Music was her passion of life. Survivors include two sons, James Begemann and wife Teresa and Ron Begemann and wife Joan, both of Odessa, MO; ten grandchildren, Mark Begemann, Tresina Alvested, Matthew Begemann, Mary McBride, Christopher Begemann, Carrie Begemann, Christina Morgan, Bradley Begemann, Chris Coleman and Justina Setina; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Arndt Schowengerdt; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Begemann of Odessa, MO. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by two sons, Ray Lynn Begemann and Thomas Begemann; and a sister, Emma Jean Lear.
