Claude "Sam" Alvin Asbury Sr.

Claude “Sam” Alvin Asbury, Sr., 79, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at home surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, 100 W. Highway OO, Odessa, MO, 64076. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at the Odessa Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Crossroads Hospice or First Baptist Church of Odessa. A dinner and time of fellowship will be held at the Lake Lafayette Community Center, 1001 Lafayette Dr., Odessa, MO, 64076 following the burial. Sam was born on April 29, 1938 in Giatto, West Virginia to John Arnold and Maude Laurie (Ferris) Asbury. He married Patricia “Pat” Jean (Shrout) Asbury on July 19, 1968 in Independence, MO. Sam was a member of the First Baptist Church in Odessa. He worked many years as a commercial concrete carpenter, he retired from Intec Construction Co. in Kansas City, MO. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing, taking care of his yard, collecting coins and traveling to the East Coast.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Asbury of Odessa, MO; two children, Claude Alvin Asbury Jr., and wife Nancy Asbury of Odessa, MO and Treasa Howe and husband Mike Howe of Oak Grove, MO; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; one brother, James William Asbury and wife Susie of Lashmeet, West Virginia; two sisters, Carol Sue Brooks of Pineville, West Virginia and Shelby Jean Downs of Columbus, Mississippi; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Lynn Asbury; a granddaughter, Cierra Clark; six brothers, George, Harry, Robert, John, Jr., Don and Cecil Asbury; and one sister, Mildred Taylor.
